Welcome to the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at Pittsburg State University. All Family and Consumer Sciences programs of study have a common theme. Each, in some way addresses the social, physical and economic well being of individuals and families as they function in their communities at home and around the world. The programs in the department focus on the fundamental building blocks of human existence - food, shelter, clothing, human relationships, commerce and family life.
Students in our department choose from several undergraduate programs (Early Childhood, Family & Consumer Sciences Teacher Education, Fashion Merchandising, Individual and Family, Interior Design) and a cooperative graduate program with the Department of Technology Studies (Career and Technical Education - FCS Emphasis). Students who complete our programs are prepared to help individuals, families, businesses, and communities cope with the challenges and complexities of today's society.
Each student in our department is assigned an academic advisor who is committed to assisting you reach your goal of completing your degree. Advisor assignments are based on your area of study which provides you with both someone who knows and understands your content area and also is familiar with the career opportunities that will be available to you. Our faculty is interested in your success and is available to assist you in helping you reach your goal of completing a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences.

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at Pittsburg State University provides educational programs and experiences that develop professional and life skills that help people function more effectively in their daily living and working environments.
