After serving as a graduate assistant and an adjunct in the PSU Department of Communication, Trent Kling begins his first year as an assistant professor in 2012. Trent has worked in radio, television, and media/public relations in one form or another since 2004, when he got his first job as a news assistant at KNSS Radio in his native Wichita. He worked as the Media Relations and Broadcasting Director for the Amarillo Gorillas (Central Hockey League) and Amarillo Dusters (arenafootball2) in Texas before moving back to Pittsburg to pursue his Master of Arts in Communication in 2009.
Trent attended Pittsburg State University as an undergraduate, earning a B.S. in Communication (broadcast emphasis) in 2007. He earned his Master of Arts in Communication in 2010, completing his thesis on early Kansas media and its coverage of locally important events.
In addition to teaching at Pittsburg State, Trent continues to work in local media, assisting with various sports and specialty broadcasts at KSEK Radio in Pittsburg. Trent and his wife Lindsey own and operate Kling Family Produce, a farm and value-added goods business in Southeast Kansas. He serves on the board (and as the Media Relations Director) of the Pittsburg Farmers’ Market, where he and Lindsey can be found every Saturday morning. In addition to broadcasting, he takes great interest in Kansas history, horticulture, sports, baking, and crafting homemade jams and candles.
