All of the submissions are juried by the Pittsburg State University Gallery Committee. The committee consists of Department of Art Faculty from a variety of visual arts disciplines. Artists accepted for exhibition are expected to show the type of work that is reflected in their proposal. All materials of non-accepted work will be returned with your SASE. If an online submission is made and your proposal is accepted we will request you follow up with a hard copy that includes a CD of submitted work, a resume and CV, and an artist’s statement plus any other support material that would be of interest to the gallery audience.

Entry Check list:

CD Submissions:

10-20 images that are identifiable regarding medium size and date, or an accompanying image list that itemizes what we are looking at.  Number your images on the CD to correspond to the list of images.

CD Specs:

The CD needs to be Mac compatible.  Store the images as jpegs @ 72 dpi. Large files take too long to load the images and it is possible they will be missed if they exceed 72 dpi and we can’t open them in a timely fashion. You are welcome to prepare a powerpoint, but again please keep the images at 72dpi so that the powerpoint loads quickly.

Artist Resume and Artist Statement.

Self addressed stamped envelope for return of materials if required.

Again, a reminder:

CD's: Please submit jpgs @ 72 dpi in a folder with an accompanying image list, or if preferable in a powerpoint format with images no larger than 72 dpi so the powerpoint opens quickly.

Forward all snail mail materials to:

Or email materials to:   sbowman@pittstate.edu

Note: For email submissions it is important that you put the following as your subject line:

It is important you use this subject line or the entry might be missed.  You will receive a reply that the submission has been received (email submissions only).  If you don’t get that email please send your submission again or call the gallery directly: 620- 235-4305 to notify us that it has been sent. Again, it is important that you keep the file sizes of your images small (72 dpi) or the email might not come through and we will have a difficult time preparing them for viewing in the jury selection process.

Unless otherwise specified by the artist all work will be offered for sale, but please note sales are not our primary focus and they do not occur that often.  We do not take a commission of sales do occur.

Accepted artists will be contacted by the Gallery Director. Monetary awards vary and the Gallery Director will discuss awards on an individual basis. An additional monetary award is provided for artists who can be available for an artist/gallery talk in conjunction with their exhibit. These awards vary between $100 and $200, with an additional stipend of $100 if you are able to visit the campus to lecture.  Artists and their portfolios are featured on the PSU website, and every effort is made to be sure you have ample public acknowledgment of your exhibit that could include, but not always, articles in the local newspaper, college paper and a video documentation of your lecture if you present one.

Insurance of all artwork submitted remains the responsibility of the artist. PSU is unable to provide insurance to entrants as the university is “self-insured” and it is unlikely a claim against it would be favorable so I prefer to not make a claim that your work is insured. The gallery maintains a professional staff and strives to ensure that all work exhibited will be treated with the utmost care and protection. However, PSU Art Department nor its employees are liable for damages to submitted work

Shipment of work:

Artists are responsible for shipping work at their own expense including the cost of return. Exhibit Awards are intended to assist exhibitors with this expense.

PSU is located in Pittsburg, Kansas which is home to approximately 6000 Students and a community of 19,000. It is near Joplin, Missouri and the Ozarks. Kansas City and Tulsa, Oklahoma are each about 120 miles away.
