Minutes 07-12-2006

All Classified Senate meetings are open to any interested employees of PSU. You do NOT have to be a Senator…everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.

President Lunday called the July 12, 2006 meeting of the Pittsburg State University Classified Senate to order at 1:30 p.m. in the Balkans Room of the Student Center.

Senators Present: Sue Ann Barnes, John Bartels, Kathy Benard, David Hartman, Pam Henderson, Kathi Lunday, Kathy Neely, Trish Peak, Wendy Peterson, Treva Sherman, Marty Stidham, Mary Wolfe

Senators Excused: Tim James, Leigh Ann Martin, Joyce Row, Heather Winzer, Sondra Wood

Non-Senators Present: Ruby Ashmore, Jon Clarkson, Jerry Duvall, John Foster, Gary Fox, Mel Krainz, Robert Scott, Joe Sullivan, Don Tarter, Junior Turner

Minutes: Motion was made, seconded and passed to accept the minutes of the June meeting.

Treasurer’s report: May 2006 budget account had a beginning balance of $860.32, less expenses of $467.84 for an ending balance of $392.48. Donation account $27.95 with no activity. Motion to accept Treasurer’s report was made, seconded and passed.

Position Paper: Met June 29 with other Regents’ schools to discuss and create a position paper for FY 2008. Copies of the position paper were distributed. Contact will be made with Rep. Menghini to begin working on a bill.

Election Committee: Dee Buffalo replaces Karen LaSota (Instruction) and Kathy Benard replaces Doug Gilmore (Building Maintenance). By a majority of votes, Dave Hornback replaced Rob Dillon (Grounds Maintenance). At this time, all positions are filled.

Legislative Committee: No report.

Public Relations: Email addresses need to be updated.

Advocacy Committee: No report.

Welcoming Committee: No report.

Senate Bill 74 Research Committee: No report.

Other University Committees: No reports.

Old Business: President Lunday handed out a meeting schedule for FY 2007. Motion to accept the meeting schedule was made, seconded and passed. Changing the meeting time was discussed and it will remain at 1:30 p.m. The status of the Senate Bill 74 research committee was discussed and it will continue as an active committee.

Committees and their members were established. The objective of the Senate Advocacy Committee is to research problems bought to the attention of the senators.

New Business: Mr. Patterson would like to see a polled vote of all PSU classified employees as to what they’d like to see happen regarding Senate Bill 375 which allows improvement for vacation time for classified employees. The Senate Advocacy Committee will create and oversee the surveying process with the assistance of Sondra Wood and Pam Henderson.

President Bryant will be the speaker at the September meeting. If there are topics you would like to have him discuss, please contact Kathi Lunday with them.

A legislative forum will be set up in October by the legislative committee.

The executive committee met on Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. Agenda items for President Bryant to discuss at the September meeting were prepared.
