Guest Speaker: Mr. Patterson

Treasurer’s report: The budget account for May had a beginning balance of $284.34 with a deposit of $650 from University Advancement for the Day on the Hill trip, and expenditures of $8.14 for duplication for an ending balance of $926.20. The donation account has a beginning and ending balance of $31.10. Motion was made, seconded and passed to accept the May treasurer’s report.
Position Paper: No report.
Election Committee: No report.
Legislative Committee: No report.
Public Relations: No report.
Advocacy Committee: No report.
Other University Committees: The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee met Tuesday May 6th to ensure compliance within our program of veterinary care. Two new ferrets and a 'mansion cage' for the three animals have been added to the Nature Reach program due to successful fund raising efforts.
Senate President’s Report from Meetings with Dr. Bryant: President Hartman met with Dr. Bryant on Tuesday, May 20th . They talked about some of the same issues Mr. Patterson talked about today. They also discussed the new Student Recreation Center. Classes are set to start next week in the new facility. All athletic/exercise equipment will be in late June or early July. Fees have not been set yet. More groups wanting to use the Recreation Center than they initially thought. So they are trying to develop a fee schedule that will be fair.
Legislative Update: This spring was the worst. Legislators were not getting along and it typically does not go away the next year. It makes for a bad working relationship. The Governor’s budget asked for $20.1 million for higher education, it only was approved for $10 million. It seems the priorities went to K-12 and Transportation. More information available at http://www.pittstate.edu/pres/Legislature.html
Old Business: For more information on the new pay plan http://www.da.ks.gov/newpayplans/default.htm
Fort Hays had voted on becoming unclassified. 98 votes YES, 169 votes NO. This was primarily dependent on the pay plan.
New Business: Rotation of the host university for the Regents meetings have changed. Emporia has backed out and the Regents will meet at PSU twice a year. The regent schools will stay on the same rotation as the Regents. This makes it easier on them.
Regents are proposing a new name for the senate; Kansas Council of Classified Senate.
Good of the Order: We will be breaking ground on the new Student Health Center in February 2009.
The Jumbo Tron for the football stadium will hopefully be up and running for the first home game in the fall.
Housing North of Campus, is being built with student fees and not university monies.
University Recycling Center now takes all kinds of materials from computer and printer parts to paint cans. http://www.pittstate.edu/erc/currentInitiatives.html
