President David Hartman called the January 9, 2008 meeting of the Pittsburg State University Classified Senate to order in the Balkans Room in the Overman Student Center.

Senators Present:  Jill Allen (Secretary), John Bartels, Jerry Duvall, David Hartman (President), Pam Henderson, Dave Hornback, Kathi Lunday, Leigh Ann Martin, Tracey Mussa (President-elect), Josh Tucker, Mary Wolfe (Treasurer), Stacy Wolownik

Senators Absent:  Sue Ann Barnes, Wylie DeGruson, John Foster, Tina Gregory, Debbie Sullins, Marty White

Non-Senators Present:  Roberta Bigelow, Treva Sherman, Dr. Howard Smith, Heather Winzer

Minutes:  Stacy Wolownik was excused.  Motion was made, seconded and passed to accept the minutes as corrected.

Treasurer’s report:  The budget account for November had a beginning balance of $1,425.46, with expenditures of $490.91, for an ending balance of $934.55.  Donation account had a beginning and ending balance of $30.66.  The budget account for December had a beginning balance of $934.55, with expenditures of $11.21, for an ending balance of $923.34.  Motion was made, seconded and passed to accept the November and December treasurer’s report.

Position Paper:  President Hartman stated that the position paper is being hand delivered to each Senate President to be signed.  Day on the Hill is scheduled for February 4-5, 2008.

Election Committee:  There are two at-large vacancies.  Notices have been sent out.  If you know someone interested in serving, please contact Jill Allen x.4466 or jallen@pittstate.edu.

egislative Committee:  No report.

Public Relations:  No report.

Advocacy Committee:  No report.

Other University Committees:  Crisis Management Committee will meet this Friday.

Heather Winzer noted that The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee met December 19, 2007.  All is well with PSU’s program of Vetrinary Care and compliance is ensured.

Senate President’s Report from Meetings with Dr. Bryant:  No report.

Legislative Update:  Dr. Smith stated the Joint Senate and House representative met and gave their recommendations for the pay plan.  More information at http://www.pittstate.edu/pres/ClassifiedStaff_000.html

Old Business:  A concern was expressed because an employee’s daughter is a non-degree seeking high school guest student and is not eligible for the tuition assistance program.  HRS was correct in denying the application for tuition assistance. 

President Hartman wanted our budget increased for additional travel and expenditures.  He was told that our budget would not increase, but the funds are available if needed.

New Business:  Leigh Ann Martin is the classified representative on the Student Recreation Advisory Board.  For more information on the Advisory Board, please contact Stacy Wolownik.

Good of the Order:  PSU has over 100 Asian students this Spring semester.
