Dan Williams, Assistant Professor of Technical Theatre and Design, earned his B.F.A. from Tarkio College and his M.F.A. from Southern Illinois University. Dan has previously taught at Wichita State University (1995-2000 and 2002-2005), as well as teaching at Southwestern College (2000-2002) and Kansas Newman College (1994-1995).
He has worked, and continues to work, nationally and internationally as a Designer and Technical Director in many genres of the performing arts including Theatre, Opera, Dance, Film, Theme Parks, Trade Shows, Film and Television. Dan has received four Meritorious Achievement Awards from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival for his design work on Never In My Lifetime, Dancing at Lughnasa, Cabaret and School House Rock Live. In 2001, he was the Mary Jane Teall Theatre Awards Honoree for his set design for Tru, which was presented at The Wichita Center for the Arts in 2000, Wichita’s Scottish Rite Temple in 2002, and The American Stage in St. Petersburg Florida in 2003.
Dan also serves as the Designer/Technical Director for the Alithea Mime Theatre Company and the Wichita Contemporary Dance Theatre. He has toured with them throughout the United States as well as Warsaw, Poland in 2000, San Juan, Puerto Rico in 2001, and Shanghai, China in 2004. Dan’s teaching philosophy is, “I can teach you the tools you need to be a theatrical Designer or Technician. However, it is up to you, through your own talent, creativity, and ambition, to become that artist.”
