Dr. Peter K. Hamilton joined the Pittsburg State University Department of Communication in 1972 as an assistant professor. Through the years he expanded his academic interests and now concentrates on teaching quantitative methods and communication theory. When he became department chair in 1989 he implemented the program's current philosophy — providing students with a balance of theoretical and applied education. Throughout his tenure at PSU he has served the department and the university in numerous non-academic capacities, and of those, he is perhaps most widely known as the “Voice of the Gorillas” in his role as the public address announcer for all PSU home football and basketball games.
“My students will always remember that meaning is formed in the mind of the participants, not in the words. Since that is true, I have no idea what message they have created from this material.” — Pete Hamilton
