Basic Skills Requirement - Teacher Education

Admission to the Teacher Education Program at Pittsburg State University requires successful completion of a Basic Skills requirement. Students who receive a 24 or higher on the ACT or a score of 1730 or greater on the SAT have fulfilled this obligation. Others will need to choose between the Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST) and the College Base Test.

The PPST assessments measure competency in reading, writing, and mathematics skills. The PPST required scores are:

C-Base Dates and Registration Information

College-Base (C-Base) Examination Dates

  • April 19, 2014
  • June 21, 2014

Registration for the C-Base must be completed in person at the Testing Center, 206B Whitesitt Hall. The cost is $55.00 and is payable by cash or check only. Testing Center hours may be obtained by calling 620-235-4267.

PPST Registration Information

The Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST) can be taken in two formats. The first is a traditional paper and pencil test which is administered on nationally set test dates (see below for the 2012-2013 dates). To register for one of these dates, please go to www.ets.org/praxis. The PPST is part of the Praxis I Series.

The test can also be taken electronically at the Testing Center, 206B Whitesitt Hall according to their available schedule. Registration is also completed by going to www.ets.org/praxis.

Praxis II Series

The Praxis Series tests are designed to be taken by students and individuals planning to enter the teaching profession as part of the certification process required by many states and professional licensing organizations.

The test can also be taken electronically at the Testing Center, 206B Whitesitt Hall according to their available schedule. Registration is also completed by going to www.ets.org/praxis.

PLT Workshop Dates

All workshops are the same and consist of the following:  a practice test, review of responses, and a review of general test-taking strategies.

Please sign up for the workshops in advance to ensure that the appropriate amount of materials are available. A sign-up sheet is posted outside of 110C Hughes Hall.
