ANGEL Dust - little specks of information
The ANGEL Gradebook
Recording Extra Credit in the ANGEL Gradebook
When recording extra credit for tests or assignments, the credit must be entered in separately from the test/assignment grade. You can either
1. Add an assignment (such as Test 1 Extra Credit ) in the same category as the test/assignment and check the box labeled Extra Credit, or
2. Create a category labeled Extra Credit and check the category's Extra Credit box. But remember that as you add the extra credit assignments, you do not check the assignment Extra Credit box. If you did check this, the extra credit will not be added into the grade.
Hiding Grades vs Grade Release Date
When creating an assignment through Manage/Gradebook/Assignment/Add New (Advanced option), you can select a Release Date and check to have it Hidden. but knowing how these options work can make a big difference in how you want your grades to be figured and displayed to the students.
Let's say you have Assignment One (ASMT1) marked as Hidden, Assignment Two (ASMT2) marked to be released at a later date, and Assignment Three (ASMT3) as a regular assignment with neither marked.
What does the Instruction see when looking at Manage/Gradebook/View All Grades:
1. All grades entered will display under all assignments. There is no indication if the assignment is hidden, released later, or regular. You will see scores for ASMT1, ASMT2, and ASMT3.
2. Only those assignments that are regular or hidden are added to the Category Overall score and the course Overall score. Overall scores will contain scores from ASMT1 and ASMT3.
3. Those grades entered in ASMT2 will display in the assignment column but will not be figured into the Category Overall score or the course Overall score until the release date.
4. NOTE: If you review a student's gradebook with them using Manage/Gradebook/View All Grades/'click on their name' or using the Manage/Gradebook/View Grades option, the student will see all of their grades that you have entered displayed on your screen, even ASMT1 and ASMT2 grades.
What does the Student see when looking at their grades through ANGEL:
1. Individual hidden and released assignment scores do not show. The student will see ASMT3 scores.
2. The student's Category Overall and course Overall score will reflect the hidden scores. Both Overall scores will be based on ASMT1 and ASMT3 scores entered.
3. When ASMT2 release date arrives, this individual score will then display and will be added into both Overall scores.
