GENERAL INFORMATION
The Pittsburg State University Department of Chemistry offers a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Science, and Master's Degree in chemistry. The Chemistry department offers a degree certified by the American Chemical society. These degrees open many doors for serious students. Positions are available in industry, in plastics, in secondary education, and in environmental chemistry. A large fraction of chemistry students seek further education in graduate schools. Many also pursue careers in related fields such as medicine, pharmacy and engineering.
Minor programs to complement the chemistry major are available in biology, mathematics, physics, environmental engineering technology, and plastics technology.
The chemistry department at Pittsburg State University offers top students scholarships for employment in the departmental office, stockroom, or as an aide in instructional laboratories. The chemistry department encourages students to become involved in research projects, both on and off campus. The department strongly encourages student presentations at appropriate scientific meetings. In recent years students have averaged about fifteen to twenty presentations at professional meetings.
