PSU KSBDC Seminar Schedule

Registration

The seminar registration fee is $25 per person, unless otherwise indicated.  However, two people attending together may do so for a reduced registration fee of $40, unless otherwise noted.  If another person is attending with you, please provide their name and session.

Payment of the registration fee for each seminar must be made prior to the registration deadline found in the seminar schedule.  You may register by returning the enclosed registration form with your payment for registration fee(s).  If you prefer to register by phone, you may call the KSBDC at PSU, (620) 235-4920.  However, a participant will not be considered registered until payment is received or a credit card number is given.  Late registrations will be accepted on a space available basis.

Reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities will be made if requested 2 weeks in advance.  Please contact the PSU KSBDC, 620-235-4921.

Refund / Cancellation Policy

We encourage you to send a qualified substitute if you cannot attend.  A full refund of registration fees will be available if requested no later than 48 hours prior to the scheduled seminar.  No refunds will be made after that.  The Kansas Small Business Development Center at Pittsburg State University reserves the right to cancel any seminar and return all fees in the event of insufficient registration.  The liability of the KSBDC at PSU is limited to the registration fee.

Sales and Withholding Tax Workshop

Looking for a way to ease the time you spend filing tax reports?  This seminar, conducted by Ron Grant, Kansas Department of Revenue, Taxpayer Education Unit of Topeka, will cover two key areas: Kansas's withholding tax and sales tax.  You’ll gain a basic understanding of your tax responsibilities, recordkeeping & filing requirements, and form preparation.

Contractors Tax Workshop

This workshop is devoted exclusively to sales tax issues for contractors, subcontractors, and repairmen.   Individuals providing plumbing, carpentry, electrical, roofing, heating/air conditioning, etc., services will want to attend this seminar.  Specifically the workshop will address sales tax on materials and labor, Project Exemption Certificates, sales tax returns, billing and related issues.  Ron Grant, Kansas Department of Revenue, Taxpayer Education Unit of Topeka, will present the workshop.

QuickBooks Overview

This seminar is designed for business owners who are considering converting their recordkeeping system to a computerized one and want to find out more about QuickBooks as an option. We will spotlight some of the features and capabilities of the #1 Small Business Accounting Software. Topics to be discussed include: reviewing a sample company's receivable and inventory systems, recording of payroll, sales and cash transactions, tips in using QuickBooks, and a list of information you should gather if you desire to convert to the QuickBooks program. Tammie Hawkins, KSBDC Consultant at Pittsburg State University will present the seminar.

U.S. government agencies represent the world's largest market and contract to purchase a variety of products and services.  Learn about and how to target local, state, and federal government contracting opportunities.  Learn where to find these offices through the services of a procurement assistance center.  Find out where to locate information about government contracting on the Internet, and find resources that can assist you throughout the contracting process.  Manufacturers, construction companies, service providers, and suppliers will benefit most from this workshop. Staff of the Heartland Procurement Technical Assistance Center of Missouri Southern State University will present the seminar.

Recordkeeping and Financial Analysis for Small Business

We'll cover the basics of establishing an effective recordkeeping system including cash versus accrual basis of accounting, components of a good recordkeeping system, and financial statement preparation. You'll also learn about analyzing your financial information, which will include understanding financial statements, spotting trends, and using ratio analysis to improve profitability.
