The Pittsburg State University women’s basketball team (4-2) rebounded from Friday's loss to earn an 85-81 win over Evangel Saturday afternoon at the Missouri Southern Thanksgiving Classic.
The Gorillas never trailed by more than eight in the game and led by as many as five. Pitt State used solid defense and sharp second-half shooting to ensure the win in a game that saw 11 ties and nine lead changes.
Senior Brianna Buchanan led the Gorillas with 18 points, 11 of which came in the second half. Buchanan was a perfect 10-for-10 from the charity stripe on the afternoon in a game that saw Pitt State miss only seven free throws in 38 trips to the line. Senior Candice Gilbert added 11 points, three blocks and three steals. freshman Courtney Tate and sophomores Bailey Waugh and Laura Glenn each scored 10. Glenn led the team with eight rebounds, while Tate also added a team-high three assists and three steals.
