PSU Mourns Passing of Al Ortolani

Al Ortolani, who fashioned a Hall
of Fame career as athletic trainer
and head baseball coach at
Pittsburg State University during a
tenure that spanned five decades,
died early Friday morning,
November 28, 2008. He was 80.

Ortolani established himself as one
of the nation’s most respected athletic trainers at his

Senior offensive lineman Kendall Molz earned first-team Daktronics All-Super Region Four honors, while senior tailback Caleb Farabi and sophomore safety Alex Kuhlman garnered second-team recognition Tuesday (Dec. 2).

Molz now will advance to the Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America ballot. The Kiowa, Kan., native started all 13 games for the Gorillas at strong guard, helping Pitt State average 35.5 points and 435.7 total yards per game. He was a unanamious first-team All-MIAA selection.

Gorillas Open MIAA Play Against Western Wednesday

The Pittsburg State University men’s and women’s basketball teams will travel to St. Joseph, Mo., Wednesday (Dec. 3) to open Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play against Missouri Western State University.

Tipoff for the women’s action is set for 5:30 p.m. (CST) at the Looney Athletic Complex, while the men’s contest will follow at 7:30 p.m.

The Pitt State women enter the game with a 4-2 record, while the Griffons come in at 0-4 overall. The Gorilla men are 3-2 overall while the Griffons are 1-3.
