There
are many career choices within the field of health if you choose
not to attend medical school. There are, for example, programs for
Physicians' Assistants, Radiology, X-ray technicians, physical therapists,
and others. (Pittsburg State has a baccalaureate nursing program,
a graduate nursing program that includes a nurse practitioner curriculum,
a medical technology program, and participates in a pre-physical
therapy program offered through the University of Kansas)
If you decide you are more interested in
scientific research than in practicing medicine, you may be interested
in a Ph.D. program in molecular biology, biochemistry, neurobiology,
microbiology, biophysics, radiation physics, health physics, biochemical
engineering, or other basic medical science areas.
