The PSU Art Department Faculty moves in and out of a dialogue with the elements of art and life in the classroom or the studio. The 2004 Faculty exhibit is a cross section of the recent work produced using a variety of elements to delight and inspire the viewing audience. James Oliver’s ‘Farm Expo’ series, part of which is on view in the gallery, will be featured on the cover of New American Painting, Issue 54 later this Fall. Rhona Shand’s work has been recently reviewed and written about in the prestigious Polaraid International Journal. Marjorie Schick has been invited by the Smithsonian Institution to have the story of her life and work exhibited for the "Archives of American Art Oral History Program." In 2002 Professor Schick was honored with the Kansas Governor’s Artist of the Year Award. In 2000 she was made a fellow of the American Craft Council. New work by Schick and Kucharski create delightful new departures into elements of color and shape. Kucharski’s confident handling of the clay element is transformed into unexpected proportions and surprises us in regards to what we should expect from the form and function of a bowl. Stephanie Bowman’s pieces are studio and sketchbook explorations undertaken in conjunction with a larger project that can be seen at http://www.pittstate.edu/art/sbowman/genepool/HTML/genepool.html.
Dr. Andree Flageolle will present a public lecture on the Faculty Exhibit September 1st at 2:30 pm in Porter Hall.
