| Jeffrey Ventrella is like a shadow. Not like the darkness of a shadow but like the lightness of a shadow. Shadows do have a light side, and that is why they can expand into giants across shorelines, or diminish into slices along the edge of a building. Shadows can leap across mountains and bridge the gap between you and me. Shadows are never the same from moment to moment because as the earth bends one way the sun bends another and a shadow stretches to touch each one. A shadow also cannot comprehend what a barrier is. If a shadow cannot go over the top of an object it will disappear underneath it. If underneath and overtop are blocked then the shadow goes somewhere else and tries again. Creativity is also like a shadow because creativity can put giants on the sand and I notice this every time I see children build castles on the seashore. Therefore if creativity and Jeffrey are both like shadows then it could be said that Jeffrey Ventrella is like a shadow because he creates many more things than giants and also won’t be limited by barriers that obstruct where he wants to go. The silhouette of a shadow will often expand my expectation of what shapes are possible because by the time the round curve of a barbecue grill bumps over the steps of the porch it has been translated into disparate angles and rectangles. Jeffrey too, expands my expectations of how you might find a person spending their will and energy saving—not the world: none of us can do that alone—but on saving sensitivity and protecting consciousness within the environment of artificial intelligence. Jeffrey joined the ranks of the computer programming elite because he found it could animate the perfect beauty of the polyhedron in a way that the hand help flip books he could construct did not. If Jeffrey could be something other than human I think he’d be a polyhedron because the polyhedron’s predictable form is a sign of truthfulness that stands against the confusion of our modern malaise. The computer is to Jeffrey nothing more than a tool for digging out the
most powerful way to express the generosity of the created universe and
how it can provide stability in the face of constant change. Jeffrey’s
passion for digging in the garden unearths the splendid growth of greens,
gold and golden plants. His tending tender compassion extends into the
darkness of the cavernous recesses of a computer’s shell so it will
make light so he can be a shadow and build bridges between a Kosmos that
is yearning to burst forth and the one that is partly ready for the compost
pile. |
