My intentions are to initiate a dialogue or conversation with the viewer through the information that I have provided within my work as a vital component of my artistic process. My work intentionally bombards the viewer with layers of information to be read often as a narrative within itself or as an application, which is transferred through an existing series of works. This formatting of the visual information in my work often parallels with various informational systems, events or experiences that I encounter regarding contemporary and pop culture in this country. For example: 1.The switching of channels or stations within electronic media, 2.The flipping through of pages in print media or 3.The movement of the body through space as self or in partnership with a machine. These experiences generate information for me through visual images, which often remain as an after image, layered over the next image and the next image and the next image, as both transparent and opaque windows which form a three dimensional illusion in space that I then recreate within a traditionally flat working surface. I mix the content of these images provoking chance, which often directs my intent towards a weave of environmental inquiry specifically regarding my current interests in animals and in toys as cultural bridges. I intend for my work to be assessable and available to a wide viewing audience.
The surfaces of my works are often intimate and active in application. Interactions of these surfaces are often in collaboration with nature via a weathering process that I have developed. In addition I have also developed a physical layering processing utilizing various transparent fiber cloths glued to various surfaces and layered over one another which often presents me options to work both from the front or the back of a work and through the many glued applications. My attraction to layering dominates as a vehicle for my ideas utilizing a mixed media vocabulary which includes various drawing and collage mediums and processes, paper, wood, printed cloth, aluminum, Plexiglas, oils, acrylics, dirt and various weathering items from out of doors and layered transparent fibers. Titles are import clues and a point of passage into my work that I utilize to entice the viewer into the viewing space. The viewer has now become an unknown collaborator for me within my work that I believe completes my artistic process.
