Alumni Legacy License Plate Scholarships

Revised October 2007

License PlateProceeds from the PSU Gorilla License Plate program royalty fees will be used to award Alumni Legacy License Plate Scholarships and scholarships for other incoming students.

Applicants for the Alumni Legacy License Plate scholarship must be a son or daughter of a Pittsburg State University graduate who is enrolling for the first time as a full time student during the spring or fall semester.  Currently enrolled students are not eligible.  Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or ACT score of 21.  The minimum Alumni Legacy License Plate Scholarship awarded will be $250.  In the event royalty fees from the program will not allow for the minimum award amount to be met for all qualified applicants, preference will be given to applicants who have demonstrated participation and leadership in extra curricular activities and/or to applicants whose parents or themselves participate in the PSU Gorilla License Plate program.  Applications will be made online through the PSU Online Scholarship Application process and will be taken only once per year.  Application deadline is February 1.  Applicants will be notified by June 1 if they have been awarded an Alumni Legacy License Plate scholarship.

If necessary, a committee formed by the PSU Alumni Association will review applications to award Alumni Legacy License Plate scholarships.  After the minimum amount of $250 has been awarded to all qualified applicants, any additional available royalty fees will be divided among the top counties in Kansas (as identified below) and awarded based on the percentage of Gorilla license plates registered in those counties as of February 1.  The top counties in Kansas, chosen because they have the highest population of alumni, include:  Bourbon, Cherokee, Crawford, Johnson, Labette, Montgomery, Neosho, and Sedgwick.  Any part of the royalty fees not attributed to the above listed counties will be divided and awarded to the remaining qualified applicants that are not from the listed counties.  Any scholarship funds awarded and not accepted by qualified applicants will be added the following year to the amount of funds available for distribution and awarded as described above.

Royalty fees from the Gorilla License Plate program will also be used to fund scholarships for other incoming students as long as funds are available.  These scholarships are presented to students at selected Alumni and Constituent Relations events.  Incoming students chosen to receive a scholarship must enroll the following semester as a full time student at Pittsburg State University.
