Special Clubs and Programs for Transfer Students

Transfer Honor Society

In 2004, PSU established a charter of the National Transfer Honor Society - TAU SIGMA. You will be eligible for membership in the honor society if you complete 12 or more credits in your first PSU semester and earn a 3.5 or greater GPA. You will pay a one time membership fee of $30 and each spring new members are inducted in a formal ceremony. Additionally, Tau Sigma continues activities throughout the year aimed at helping new transfer students make a smooth transition to PSU life. Tau Sigma is run by a few elected student leaders and it is a great way to get involved, meet other students and develop leadership skills.

Transfer Transitions UGS 101

Transfer Transitions is a six-week, one-credit hour course designed to assist transfer students in making a smooth transition to Pittsburg State University.

The goal of the Transfer Transitions course is to provide transfer students the opportunity to interact with students who are sharing in their same experiences.  Students who participate are trained in the use of the university-wide enrollment system (GUS), are exposed to a wide range of campus activities, are introduced to community services and amenities, and are informed of campus services and resources.

Transfer Transitions is available in the fall and spring semesters and is recommended for all transfer students.

Honors College

The primary mission of the Honors College is to provide a more meaningful educational experience for select superior students.  Honors College members are a carefully screened select group of scholarship recipients.  Transfer students who participate in Honors College complete a transfer seminar during their first semester of enrollment at PSU which also incorporates a community services requirement.  Honors College graduates receive special recognition at commencement ceremonies and their college transcripts indicate completion of the university and applicable Departmental Academic Honors program.

Transfer students must have completed 40 semester hours with a minimum grade point average of 3.75 on a four point scale to apply.  Application packets may be obtained at http://www.pittstate.edu/admin/vpaa/honorscollege.html
