Transfer Articulation Agreement
Students graduating from an accredited Kansas community college with an associate of science or an associate of arts degree based on a baccalaureate oriented sequence will automatically be granted junior standing at Pittsburg State University under the Transfer Articulation Agreement and will have satisfied the general education requirements based on the guidelines below. Although the guidelines do not correspond to the General Education requirements at Pittsburg State University, it will be accepted as having satisfied the PSU General Education program. Students not meeting the articulation agreement will be given general education credit for any articulated general education course completed at the community college.
Guidelines
- A minimum of 45 credit hours of general education with distribution in the following fields:
Twelve (12) hours of Basic Skills courses, including:
- 6 hours of English Composition
- 3 hours of Speech Communication
- 3 hours of College Level Mathematics
Twelve (12) hours of Humanities courses from at least three of the following disciplines:
Art*
Music*
Theatre*
History
Philosophy
Literature
*Performance/studio courses are excluded
Twelve (12) hours of Social and Behavioral courses from at least three of the following disciplines:
- Sociology
- Economics
- Psychology
- Political Science
- Geography
- Anthropology
Eight (8) hours of Natural and Physical Science courses from at least two disciplines (lecture with lab).
Students with an associate degree who have not met the transfer articulation requirements may complete the remainder of the requirements at PSU or fulfill the PSU General Education program.
- Transcripts of students fulfilling the guidelines of this agreement will be appropriately coded by the sending institution.
Points of Clarification
- Students transferring into a degree program in the College of Technology are considered outside of this agreement.
- Foreign Language requirements are viewed as graduation requirements and not as general education requirements for purposes of this agreement.
- A transfer student may be required to take freshman or sophomore courses to meet degree or graduation requirements.
- Transfer students preparing for teacher certification must meet the general education requirements as outlined by the State Board of Education.
