How do I find the name of my undeclared major advisor?
Students in the Undeclared Major Program may be assigned to any of the faculty advisors in the program. You can determine the name of your academic advisor in several ways:
- From the online GUS system, select "Degree Audit" and "Degree Audit with current degree/major/minor." The name of your Undeclared Major advisor will be listed on the screen which appears.
- Contact Enrollment Management and Student Success office at 620-235-4109. This office maintains a listing of Undeclared Majors and their advisors.

How soon do I need to declare a major?
Students in the Undeclared Major program concentrate on the General Education courses required for all Pitt State degrees. This curriculum translates to about three semesters of full-time work. If a student is still in the Undeclared Major Program in the fourth semester, it's likely that some course credits will count only as electives toward their college degree.

How do I get my advisement number?
Your advisement number is one of three identifying numbers you'll need to access the enrollment portion of the GUS system (The others are your PSU ID# and your GUSPin). You receive your advisement number from your academic advisor when your advisor has reviewed and approved your course schedule. Since your advisement number is connected to your advisor's approval, he/she is not likely to simply reveal it to you over the phone or in response to an e-mail message.

How do I change my advisor?
For the Undeclared Major Program (or any other academic department) you can request a change of advisor at the department office. There is no requirement that you notify your current advisor of this change. The department administrative assistant can usually make the change and provide contact information for your new advisor.

How do I add and drop classes?
All changes in your course schedule should be discussed with your academic advisor. During the first week of classes, you may add, drop, or change classes through the GUS system. After the first week of classes, all changes to a schedule must be processed through the Registrar's Office.

How can I determine the classes I need to complete a specific major?
The GUS system allows you to do a "what if" degree audit to determine the classes you'll need for any potential major. Select "Degree Audit" from the menu, then mark "Modified Degree Audit" to enter the major you want degree information about.
CAUTION: Some students attempt to gather this information by actually changing their major, performing an audit, and then changing the major back to the original. When you change your major in GUS, the system assigns you to a "default" advisor in the academic department. This person is often not the same advisor you had before, even if you returned to the same major.

How do I declared a major?
You can declare an academic major by visiting the department office for that major. The department administrative assistant can perform the major change from his/her terminal, and can also assign you to one of the departmental academic advisors. When you have declared or changed your major, the GUS system automatically notifies both your previous department (or the Undeclared Major Program) and your new major department.
