Academic Achievement Award (for transfer students):
Students transferring from an accredited college, university or community college, 3.25 GPA and 48 hours completed or a 3.5 GPA and 24 hours completed. (GPA of 3.25 to 3.99 - $750 Award, GPA of 4.0 - $1,500 Award)
Kansas All-State Academic Team (for transfer students):
To receive this non-renewable $1000 award, a student must be selected as a member of the Kansas All-State Academic Team sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa and the Kansas Association of Community Colleges.
Phi Theta Kappa Recognition Award (for transfer students):
To receive this non-renewable $500 award, a student must be admitted to PSU as a transfer student and be an active member in the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society (proof of membership is required).
Transfer Scholar Leadership Program:
The Transfer Scholar Leadership Program was created to recognize the outstanding achievements of students transferring to Pittsburg State University from a community college. In addition, program goals include encouraging and promoting involvement at PSU by transfer students who have demonstrated their leadership potential while in the community college.
Students selected for the program participate in a Transfer Scholar Leadership Transitions course their first semester as well as complete no more than 15 hours of service hours each of their first three semesters. Service activities will focus on activities and programs that assist other transfer students in making a successful transition to PSU.
Once in the program, a student is required to be enrolled full-time with a minimum PSU GPA of a 3.0 after their first year.
To be eligible for this program a student must:
-Be transferring from a community college
-Have at least a 3.25 cumulative college GPA
-Completed at least 42 hours of college coursework (at least 24 hours completed after high school graduation) and enrolled full-time during the semester of application
Twelve students each year will be selected for the Transfer Scholar Leadership Program. Each student will receive a $2,000 scholarship renewable for a second year provided the student has completed at least 24 PSU hours with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA after the first year.
To apply for the program, a student must send a completed Transfer Scholar Leadership Program application, including one completed reference form, to Penny Cook, Office of Admission, 1701 South Broadway, Pittsburg, KS 66762 by February 1. To be considered an applicant must have been admitted to PSU and have an official college transcript (s) on file to verify GPA and hours completed. The Diversity Scholarship (for transfer students):
Students of diversity may be eligible for the Diversity Grant in Aid in the amount of $1,000 if they meet a diversity* factor and the academic criteria below:
• At least 24 college hours completed with a minimum cumulative college GPA of 3.5.
• The grant is renewable for students with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 during their first year at PSU with a minimum of 24 credit hours completed.
*Factors that compose diversity include, but are not limited to, students who are members of an underrepresented ethnicity on campus, low socioeconomic first generation college attendees, or are from geographic areas where students have not traditionally attended Pittsburg State University.
