Application form completed by the student. Must be typed.
The Freshman Honors College application includes the following:
- Completed Application Form
- An official copy of your 7th semester transcript (This is a separate process from Admission to the University)
Reference forms completed by a school administrator/community member and a teacher in sealed envelopes to the applicant
Essay attached to application packet
Official verification of ACT score either on official transcript or photocopied from ACT results material.
NOTE: All materials must be postmarked by January 15, 2013, to ensure consideration for the applicant in the 2013-2014 Freshmen Honors College Class. Applications received after the Jan. 15 postmarked date will not be considered for review by the selection committee.
Requirements and Admission to the Honors College
Entering freshmen whose applications are postmarked by January 15th prior to the fall semester in which the student will enter Pittsburg State University will be considered for membership.
Students graduating from an accredited high school:
- ACT composite score of 28 or higher OR SAT composite score of 1240 or higher; AND
- Complete the pre-college curriculum with at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale (unweighted)
The Pre-college Curriculum as established by the Kansas Board of Regents includes:
- 4 units of English
- 3 units of Math (Algebra I and above taken in grade 9-12)
- 3 units of Natural Science
- 3 units of Social Science
- 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale; AND
- ACT/SAT/National Standardized Test; AND
- Rank in the to 1/3 of high school graduating class; AND
- Minimum TOEFL Score of 68 (Internet based); AND
- Recommendation from the PSU International Program and Services
Members of the Honors College are able to enroll each semester with the classification ahead of them. For instance, freshmen enroll with the sophomores, sophomores with the juniors, and juniors with the seniors. This ensures first choice of seats in classes during each enrollment period.
Waiver of Out of State Tuition
Students receiving Honors College Presidential or University scholarships living outside of Kansas or Gorilla Advantage will receive a waiver for out-of-state tuition fees
Pittsburg State University has a wide range of Study Abroad Program opportunities designed for undergraduate and graduate students. Students may choose to travel for a few weeks to one or more countries with group program options or plan an individual study abroad experience for a semester or full academic year.
Honors College students receiving Presidential or University scholarships who are in good standing will receive a one-time study abroad stipend up to $2,000 for a PSU approved study abroad program.

Membership in the Honors College Association
All members of the Honors College are automatically members of the Honors College Association, a recognized student organization through the Campus Activities Association. Monthly meetings provide students the opportunity to become involved in numerous campus activities and can also provide excellent leadership opportunities for those who choose to become involved on a higher level.
$9,500 per year for four years plus a one-time Study Abroad Stipend up to $2,000 for a total four year package of $40,000.
$4,500 per year for four years plus a one-time Study Abroad Stipend up to $2,000 for a total four year package of $20,000.
Crimson and Gold Members
$1200 Academic Achievement Award through the Office of Admission and a $1000 Honors College stipend for the first year and are renewable for a second year if they meet criteria.
