The Department of Family & Consumer Sciences at Pittsburg State University is one of two FAC programs in Kansas and is known for getting students involved in professional development opportunities that will lead to employment across the nation. Students who select the youth and adolescence development minor typically are those looking for something to complement a major in secondary education, social work, sociology, or psychology.
Family & Consumer Sciences is an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary study of the relationship between humans and their natural, social, and built environments. Students minoring in the area of youth and adolescence development at PSU experience a variety of courses selected from both within and outside of the Department of Family & Consumer Sciences. They are guided by dedicated faculty who see the potential of every student to find their own level of success. The minor is open to all students on campus.
The Department of Family & Consumer Sciences offers baccalaureate degrees and a cooperative master’s degree program. B.S. programs are offered in Community and Family Services, Early Childhood Development, and Fashion Merchandising. A B.S.E. program is offered in Family & Consumer Sciences Education. The department is also a partner in the Early Childhood Unified program housed in the College of Education. The department offers minors in Early Childhood, Fashion Merchandising, Human Ecology, and Youth and Adolescent Development. The department also contributes to minors in Women’s Studies and Public Health.
