The BS in Physics with Professional Emphasis features core courses and advanced training in theoretical physics along with electives. This combination prepares students for advanced training in graduate school, where they will seek a specialty.
The Professional Sequence assists students in matriculating to a graduate program in pursuit of an advanced degree (MS or PhD). Students with advanced degrees can go on to work for research facilities in private industry, government research labs or universities.
Students work directly with professors in research involving microscopes, spectrometers, computers and other equipment. Faculty and students regularly present their research at regional and national meetings
The Department of Physics at Pittsburg State University was founded in 1962 and has been dedicated to the outstanding teaching of undergraduate and graduate physics students ever since. Our faculty members are trained in a wide variety of physics-related fields and have industrial and research laboratory experience. We pride ourselves in getting to know our students and helping them through their years of academic growth at PSU.
Students take a selection of classes to complete Physics, Professional Sequence emphasis.
