1925 Gorillas 480w

Gorillas

When you're the only college or university in the nation with a Gorilla for your mascot people naturally want to know, "Why a Gorilla?"

Pitt State's unique mascot traces back to student Harold Alyea in 1920 who formed the Gorillas, a group known for their rowdy and unwavering dedication to PSU athletics.

In 1925 the student body officially adopted the Gorilla as the school's mascot, reflecting the university's distinctive spirit and the qualities of its alumni, who embody intelligence, strength, loyalty, and collaboration.
